Candidate Questionnaire
What motivated you to run for the North Dakota Legislature? (100 words max)
I have always been interested in the process of good government. It is interesting work, and as a conservative I support efficient operations and stewardship of our state resources.
What personal, professional, or community experiences have best prepared you to serve as a State Legislator? (100 words max)
I have 2 Master’s degrees in business, and I have years of corporate experience where my work focused on creating optimal outcomes in the most efficient manner. i have also served on numerous community committees and boards, and I have a good understanding of the needs of our community and state.
If elected, what would be your top three priorities for the State of North Dakota, and why? (100 words max)
Supporting law enforcement and veterans.
Healthcare costs and transparency.
Leveraging our natural resources to provide a strong grid and water across the entire state.
Looking ahead five years, what do you see as the most significant opportunities and challenges facing North Dakota? (100 words max)
Institutional knowledge will be lost with term limits, as our leaders will no longer be allowed to serve this great state. The wisdom leaders will no longer be serving, and new legislators will depend on lobbyist groups to guide them in their decisions. While there are lobbyists with great integrity, there is also a risk when historical perspective is lost. We are a state with great opportunities ahead, and we must be conservative in our spending while driving innovation. Workforce is a major challenge. We are in need of specialty healthcare and must focus on growing that workforce for the future.
Do you support the use of state funding for programs and initiatives aimed at attracting, developing, and retaining talent throughout North Dakota? Please explain. (100 words max)
If the initiatives have a good return on investment I would support state funding, however there must be a proven positive ROI. I encourage a public/private approach to grow our workforce. Strong partnerships can create a work environment that attracts and sustains a healthy workforce.
Do you support the use of state funding for economic development, such as incentives, tax credits, and other programs to support business retention, attraction and expansion? Please explain. (100 words max)
I am pro growth. I would support this funding for a limited time and not for extended years. It will depend on what the need is in the state, and what the deliverables will be to address the biggest needs. I believe we have extended incentives for too long in some cases.
In 2023, F-M Metro COG conducted a study of the metro area’s housing market that identified the need for 16,400 housing units across the region by 2033. What policies or tools can the Legislature use to support the development of attainable, market-rate housing in Cass County and across North Dakota? (100 words max)
I recommend market-rate housing with a low interest rate for first time home buyers and for those who are at the lower end of the FPL. Many older homes could also benefit from modernization to make them energy efficient and affordable for new home owners.
Access to quality childcare continues to be a major concern for families and employers across the state. If elected, how would you work to expand access to affordable, high-quality childcare in North Dakota? Please explain. (100 words max)
I believe there needs to be a multiple faceted approach to childcare. Our childcare providers must be valued with pay equity that supports a healthy wage. This is an area where our workforce needs help. We must attract more students into the early childcare coursework and build our own workforce of childcare professionals. Parents may receive a larger tax credit to help with childcare costs.
Do you support the development of the Red River Valley Water Supply Project? Please explain. (100 words max)
Absolutely. We must secure this water supply as soon as possible. We are at risk of other states wanting to tap into our supply. We should move quickly with this project to help keep the costs from a continued rise over time.
Do you support the development of a Natural Gas Pipeline to Eastern North Dakota? Please explain. (100 words max)
Yes. We have many resources in the western part of our state, but we need a pipeline as well as transmission lines to move the resources to this part of the state. It is the safest way to move the products.
