The Largest challenges are Workforce, Affordable Housing, and Childcare. I plan on introducing legislation that will increase funding for Early Childhood Education and childcare, allowing all family members to pursue their careers without overburdening them. I will also work with my colleagues to improve housing affordability.
-
Yes. We can do this by developing programs that improve housing affordability and increase access to childcare. We currently need to improve access to housing and childcare, the lack of which discourages potential individuals from moving to our state to fill our workforce needs.
-
Yes. It is an appropriate investment in North Dakota's Future. We do need to shift our focus to early childhood education/childcare. This will improve our ability to attract businesses and the necessary workforce to fill those jobs. Also, when we focus on education, even at earlier ages, we build the workforce pipeline for generations to come.
-
The state legislature needs to invest in Early Childhood Education/Childcare to improve the quality of our residential lives. Childcare is an essential part of developing the next generation of workers and helping all parents who want to work to do so. Regarding affordable housing, we need to find innovative ways to encourage affordable housing development and help first-time home buyers with down payments.
-
Yes. Infrastructure programs are a necessary governmental expense that keeps our business community competitive.
-
Yes. We need to be careful when spending Legacy fund dollars. These dollars must be used wisely to improve the lives of all North Dakotans and conservatively, so they are available for future generations.
-
Oppose. Eliminating property taxes will only raise taxes on our most vulnerable populations. As a legislature, we do need to look at improving support for property owners by giving tax rebates whenever we have a surplus in our budget.
