Candidate Questionnaire

What motivated you to run for public office? (100 words max)

My interest in public service goes back to childhood. When I was approached about running, I saw the opportunity to serve my hometown as its Municipal Judge as a way of giving back to the place I’ve always called home.

What personal, professional, or community experiences have best prepared you to serve in this role? (100 words max)

While my practice is primarily focused on clients with needs in oil and gas, probate, real estate, and business matters, I also have experience in criminal law. I started out working in the two busiest State's Attorneys offices in North Dakota, and later represented clients in criminal matters in a private and appointed capacity in municipal, state and federal courts. Of particular relevance, I served as a contracted defense counsel for a municipal court for seven years, making me very familiar with municipal courts and what the role entails.

What do you believe are the most important qualities of a fair and effective judicial system, and how would you embody those qualities on the bench? (100 words max)

I’ve always believed everyone appearing in court is entitled to be treated with the same level of dignity, respect, and fairness, regardless of their background or the nature of their case. Judicial fairness and impartiality are cornerstones of our justice system. It's important to have people on the bench who do not come to court with preconceived notions about those appearing before them. I would strive to ensure people's experience in Municipal Court is fair and just while holding those proven to have committed an offense accountable for their actions, making sure City ordinances are respected and enforced.
