Candidate Questionnaire

What motivated you to run for the North Dakota Legislature? (100 words max)

I was involved in College Republicans and Students for Higher Education throughout college. During and after college, I worked on campaigns - but when I moved to North Dakota, I became involved in Cass County Republicans, serving as the Event Chair. I served on the Board of the North Dakota Nurses Association and served as the volunteer lobbyist in 2015-2017. This was my first real direct involvement in legislation. When my Senator decided not to run again, I was approached to see if I would be interested - and the rest, they say, is history!

What personal, professional, or community experiences have best prepared you to serve as a State Legislator? (100 words max)

I was selected to participate in the United Way's 35 Under 35 Leadership program, which introduced me to a broad section of the community. As stated before, I served on the Board of NDNA as the VP of Government Relations. I now serve on the Board of the YMCA of the Northern Sky and start on the Board of Dakota Boys & Girls Ranch next month. All of these experiences help with insight into our needs and keep me connected to the community.

If elected, what would be your top three priorities for the State of North Dakota, and why? (100 words max)

Property Tax relief, continued right-sizing of government and completing flood/drought protections for the Fargo area.

Looking ahead five years, what do you see as the most significant opportunities and challenges facing North Dakota? (100 words max)

Workforce Development and Housing are the most pressing challenges - but they also provide our community with untold opportunities!

Do you support the use of state funding for programs and initiatives aimed at attracting, developing, and retaining talent throughout North Dakota? Please explain. (100 words max)

My first priority is to make sure government gets out of the way of programs and initiatives aimed at workforce - but I am not opposed to targeted and measurable investments for the betterment of our community, state and economy.

Do you support the use of state funding for economic development, such as incentives, tax credits, and other programs to support business retention, attraction and expansion? Please explain. (100 words max)

Again, we need to make sure we don't have burdensome hoops that businesses need to jump through to stay, grow or move to our community. There are some innovative programs that can help supplement private investment that can help jumpstart economic development that I believe are worthy of state investment.

In 2023, F-M Metro COG conducted a study of the metro area’s housing market that identified the need for 16,400 housing units across the region by 2033. What policies or tools can the Legislature use to support the development of attainable, market-rate housing in Cass County and across North Dakota? (100 words max)

Ensuring local political subdivisions are not creating barriers to building and growth, to ensure that we take advantage of as much existing infrastructure as possible, and to invest - where necessary - to ensure that there is adequate, affordable housing throughout our community.

Access to quality childcare continues to be a major concern for families and employers across the state. If elected, how would you work to expand access to affordable, high-quality childcare in North Dakota? Please explain. (100 words max)

Our licensing and inspection processes need to make sense - to ensure safety, while not creating unnecessary hoops for our childcare centers to be able to flourish. Workforce is the hardest part about childcare today, so programs to incentivize people to work in childcare are well worth the investment.

Do you support the development of the Red River Valley Water Supply Project? Please explain. (100 words max)

Absolutely. The project is essential to the protection of one of our state's economic centers. North Dakota cannot withstand a prolonged drought in the Red River Valley.

Do you support the development of a Natural Gas Pipeline to Eastern North Dakota? Please explain. (100 words max)

The legislature created an innovative incentive for the development of a Natural Gas Pipeline to the East. I truly believe that incentive will allow the industry to make the pipeline become a reality sooner, rather than later.
