Public Safety. We need to increase recruitment and retention strategies by offering competitive salaries and benefits. Partner with the State and local educational institutions to create easier and less burdensome pathways into public safety careers. Develop comprehensive training programs right here in Moorhead, through our higher education institutions and our local police and fire departments.

One of the best ways to attract and retain businesses are through economic incentives with tax increment financing, renaissance zone credits, grants and subsidies, both locally and through the State of Minnesota. Moorhead Center Mall redevelopment is a perfect example on how these incentives are working to tear down the mall and replace with multiple multi use buildings.
Workforce can be accomplished by continuing to support education and professional development opportunities. Promote an inclusive and diverse environment to attract and retain a broad range of talent.
Address housing affordability and availability to make the region more attractive. We need to continue to focus on making the region safe, clean and environmentally sustainable. Combining these strategies can help create a vibrant, attractive region that appeals to both businesses and skilled professionals. Regular assessment and adaptation of these strategies based on feedback and changing conditions will also be crucial for long-term success.

Our role as an elected official is to gather community input, collaborate with developers and partner with nonprofits to address their needs and use of their experience and resources. We need to work with our local state and federal officials to help secure available funding and subsidies for affordable housing and for new housing projects. As a local official, our priority should be to review and update policies in regard to zoning laws, streamline permits and use and create incentives for development of ALL types of housing units.
