How to Vote in Minnesota

If you are a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old, and live in Minnesota, you have the right to vote! Anyone who has lived in Minnesota for 20 days prior to Election Day can vote.

In Minnesota, you can register to vote prior to July 2or on election day. To register on election day, you must have an ID with your current name and address or a photo ID and a document with your current name and address.

Minnesotans have three options for casting their vote.

 

Absentee Voting - Voting By Mail

Voters are never mailed a ballot without first requesting one through an absentee ballot application.

Early Voting (In-Person)

Cast your vote in person when convenient for you.

 

Election Day (In-Person)

Vote on Election Day at a polling location in your precinct.

Register Online or Update Your Registration

It's quick and easy! To register online you will need:

  • Your Minnesota driver’s license or Minnesota identification card number, or the last four numbers of your Social Security number
  • An email address
  • To be eligible to vote in Minnesota


    You will need to re-register if your name or address changes.

Other Ways to Register:

  • Use a paper form. Download a voter registration form to print, complete, and return to your local elections office.
  • Register when you vote. In Minnesota voters can register at polling places on Election Day or early voting locations before Election Day.
  • Automatic voter registration. All eligible adults will be automatically registered to vote when they get a state-issued ID.

    If you submit a Change of Address with USPS, that may also trigger an update of your registration.

Dates: June 26 - August 10
Voting Hours: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (Monday - Friday)

Location: All early voting will take place at the Clay County Government Center (3510 12th Ave Moorhead, MN 56560)

Date: August 11
Voting Hours: Polls will be open August 11, 7:00 am to 8:00 pm.
