Michelle Turnberg

Fargo City Commission candidate

  • Prioritize public safety

Focus on all of Fargo, not just downtown

Restore common sense to the Fargo City Commission

  • I worked in the local media for many years, much of which was spent covering city issues and local government. I have also lived in Fargo for 30 years and feel I would bring a fresh outlook and common sense to the City Commission.

  • Backing our law enforcement should be a top priority. Even though some commission members say downtown is as safe as any other part of the city, people are getting assaulted downtown. This needs to stop. We also need to address housing. I have had people reach out with concerns about renter's rights. People should be able to rent without absurd requirements like having to pay for a year in advance.

  • Since covid we have had a shortage of workers and many businesses have shut down. Once again we have to look at what our priorities are and where our money should be best spent. I want to make sure our law enforcement has all of the resources it needs first and foremost. Then we can have open and honest conversations about where money should be spent.

  • First and foremost, we need to spend less than we take in. I would like to see the city get back to pre-covid spending and prioritize where we are spending our money. If the budget allows, incentives can be offered.

  • I would like to see more options for homeownership for all levels of income. I would also like to see housing options spread throughout the city, not just focusing on growth downtown.
