Nikki Pollock

Moorhead School Board Candidate

I was raised in Moorhead and am a graduate of Moorhead High. I spent my youth flipping across the country as a member of the FM Acro Team. In high school I also participated in swimming/diving and was a sprinter on my track team. I spent 13 years in the business world working in accounts receivable/payable and graduated in 2012 with an Associate Degree in Business Management/Human Resources. In 2016 the Lord lead me back to my passion, children. I began coaching gymnastics at a local gym and found my niche. I joke that God made me for two reasons: Kids and dogs. In January 2022 I began fostering dogs through Let Love Live and Homeward Animal Shelter and have saved 10 lives to date. I currently live in Georgetown MN with my son Austin and my first 'foster fail' Hazel.

Q&A with Nikki:

  • I feel called to stand up for the children. As someone who lives my life guided by the Lord I know God is calling me to get involved and make a difference in my local community. I grew up in Moorhead and am excited to give back.

  • My first 'job' was at a local home daycare when I was 12. I love kids and kids seem to really like me. I've been part of a team my whole life. I am willing to stand up and take charge when needed but stop and just listen when necessary. I spent 13 years working in accounts payable/receivables and graduated in 2012 with a degree in business management/human resources. I served as Vice President of the Board of Directors for the Red River Boy choir as well as an assistant to the Executive Director from 2011-2013.

  • Declining proficiency numbers district wide is what motivates me the most to serve. In the 2020-2021 annual report 4th grade reading proficiency at Dorothy Dodd was at 37%. I want to see those numbers rising, not continuing to decline year after year like they currently have been.

Parental rights are very important to me. Parents are the final authority over their children plain and simple. As a board member my goal will be to inspire parents to get more involved in the daily details of their children's education. By teaming up with the teachers, parents will be able to positively contribute to their child's success.

I am also extremely concerned with children's mental health. I think right now schools are a very confusing place for kids. They're going to learn their ABC's and see their friends but there are too many voices telling them what they should or should not be. I want school to be a safe but also fun environment for all students.

  • I believe the biggest challenges facing education today are the same factors that motivate me to serve on the school board. Declining proficiency numbers, lack of parental involvement and children's mental health.

  • My vision for the district requires teamwork. The school board is the final authority and as a member I committed to making decisions that involve input from all parents and teachers. The school board, teachers, and parents working together to help each child reach their maximum potential.
